Rescue teams have found the body of a woman buried under rubble following the collapse of an apartment building in eastern Germany, police said on Thursday.

"Following the deployment of a search dog late on Wednesday evening, emergency services found a person buried under the rubble at around 10:30 pm, police in the eastern town of Goerlitz said.

"Officers identified the person found as the 25-year-old missing woman from Romania."

Search teams have been working mostly by hand to search for signs of life in a pile of bricks and broken timber after a holiday apartment building collapsed on Monday afternoon, fearing the use of heavy equipment could ignite gas.

Two others, a Romanian woman aged 26 and a 48-year-old man with German and Bulgarian nationality, are still missing.
