Grey skies and light rain are set to be banished this bank holiday weekend, with parts of the UK forecast to see scorching temperatures as high as 30°C.
From Friday, the UK is forecast for “an exceptional spell of warmth” over five days, according to the Met Office, with temperatures expected to peak on Monday.
Parts of the country are expected to meet the heatwave threshold by Sunday and into next week as southern, central and eastern England and areas of Wales are due to see three or more consecutive days of high temperatures.
Multiple yellow health alerts have been issued due to the heat, with fears there could be “greater risk to the life of vulnerable people”.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has designated the warnings for East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, London and the South East.
