Taking home two gold and four silver medals, the Vietnamese national team tied with Japan for second place overall at the 20th Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO).

The performance marks a three-place climb from last year, positioning Vietnam just behind Russia.Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training announced on Wednesday that both gold medals went to 12th graders Nguyen Huu Tuan and Nguyen Bui Duc Dung. Both are students at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, a specialized school under Vietnam National University, Hanoi.The four silver medalists represent high schools for the gifted across the country. They are 10th grader Nguyen Khanh Phuc from Ninh Binh Province, 11th grader Dang Huy Hau from Lam Dong Province, 11th grader Le Pham Duy Khoa from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences in Hanoi, and 12th grader Thai Van Gia Kien from Ha Tinh Province.
