HCMC Vice Chairman Bui Xuan Cuong announced the plan on May 20 during a field inspection of the future terminal site in Binh Trung Ward, in the city's eastern Thu Duc area. The visit was led by Deputy Construction Minister Bui Xuan Dung.
Thu Thiem station is planned across 17.2 hectares and will integrate three rail lines at a single point: the planned North-South high-speed railway, the Ben Thanh-Thu Thiem metro line, and the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway. It will serve as the southern terminus for the future bullet train from Hanoi and as the eastern transit gateway for HCMC. The station sits in Thu Thiem, an emerging urban area across the Saigon River from the historic city center that has been positioned as HCMC's new financial district.
The fully underground, 6-kilometer Ben Thanh-Thu Thiem line broke ground on April 29 under a public-private partnership led by Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment, a subsidiary of Vietnamese auto and industrial conglomerate Thaco. The line carries a total investment of around VND36.744 trillion (US$1.4 billion) and is targeted for completion in the third quarter of 2030. It will have six underground stations and share the Tham Luong depot with HCMC's broader metro network.
