Social media influencer Gabriela Gonzalez has become the center of a shocking criminal case after prosecutors accused her of participating in an alleged murder-for-hire scheme tied to a bitter custody battle. The 24-year-old content creator, popular for her outdoor and nature-themed videos on TikTok and Instagram, was charged alongside her father, Francisco Gonzalez, and former boyfriend, Faron Cordrey. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, the trio allegedly conspired to kill former boy band singer Jack Avery, who shares a 7-year-old daughter with Gabriela. Investigators claim the alleged plot dates back to 2020, when tensions surrounding custody proceedings reportedly escalated.Authorities have charged all three suspects with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation of murder. Each defendant could face a prison sentence ranging from 25 years to life if convicted on all counts. According to multiple media reports, Gabriela was taken into custody in Humboldt County on May 18 before being transferred to a Los Angeles County jail. Her father, 59, was arrested separately in Florida and is currently undergoing extradition proceedings to be returned to California. Before the allegations surfaced, Gonzalez had built a sizable online following through social media content focused on travel, nature, and outdoor living. She has nearly 470,000 followers on Instagram and reportedly over 400,000 followers on TikTok, although she had largely stepped away from the platform in 2024. The case has generated widespread attention online because of Gonzalez’s influencer status and the involvement of a well-known music figure. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged conspiracy as legal proceedings move forward.District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the FBI initially led the investigation into the alleged plot before later turning the case over to Los Angeles County prosecutors."This is a case where the defendants are accused of going to great lengths to find someone to commit murder," Hochman said as quoted by CBS News. "Most fathers raise their children to respect the law, but here we have a dad who allegedly helped his daughter and her boyfriend break the law in the most sinister way imaginable," Hochman added. Court records reviewed by CBS News reveal that several witnesses told investigators Gabriela allegedly made repeated statements about wanting Avery dead and spoke openly about arranging a contract killing. Prosecutors claim the supposed plan involved disguising Avery’s death as either a shooting or a fatal accident to avoid suspicion.Authorities further allege that between 2020 and 2021, Gonzalez instructed her former boyfriend, Cordrey, to search the dark web for someone willing to carry out the killing. According to investigators, Gonzalez’s father allegedly provided Cordrey with an initial payment of $10,000 intended to hire a hitman. However, prosecutors say the individual believed to be a contract killer was actually an undercover FBI agent working on the case.According to prosecutors, Francisco allegedly transferred an additional $4,000 to Cordrey two months later after the supposed hitman requested more money, the District Attorney’s Office said. The DA’s office further stated that Cordrey allegedly told the undercover officer that Gabriela wanted the killing carried out, while her father was expected to finance the operation.Authorities also allege that in September 2021, Cordrey communicated with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as a contract killer regarding the alleged murder-for-hire scheme. Prosecutors claim the conversations included discussions about payment arrangements, confirmation of the target’s death, and the identification of Avery as the intended victim.
