An Auckland couple has been scammed out of $27,000 after a fake painting company targeted their home.

Andrew Yeshua Glauberman, 21, has pleaded guilty in the Auckland District Court to two fraud offences and several shoplifting offences. Glauberman, a UK national, has been remanded in custody until his sentencing on September 11. An arrest warrant has been issued for his associate, 29-year-old Thomas Jay Taylor, who has fled New Zealand and will face immediate arrest if he returns.

The two men came to light during an investigation into a painting scam operating under the business name "Everlast Home Improvements". In early March, a flyer advertising the bogus company was dropped into a Mt Albert mailbox. The victims engaged the services of the company and handed over a $27,000 deposit.

The following day, an associate arrived and carried out a minimal sanding job on the exterior of the property over a two-day period. The workman then left the site and never returned.
