Moses Itauma is closing in on a deal to face Filip Hrgovic at the O2 Arena in London on August 8, with promoter Frank Warren describing the proposed contest as a massive test for the unbeaten British-Nigerian heavyweight, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Warren confirmed that negotiations are underway for the fight, which would be Itauma’s second main event appearance and his most significant test since turning professional.
“I would like to see that fight happen. There are negotiations going on, and I would love to see that fight happen. It is a massive test for Moses and a massive fight. That has got fight written all over it, hasn’t it? It’d be an exciting fight, if we can make it happen,” Warren said.
Hrgovic, 19-1 with 14 stoppages, pushed himself to the front of the queue for the August slot after stopping Dave Allen inside three rounds at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday, with Itauma reportedly watching from ringside. The Croatian also indicated his willingness for a swift turnaround.
The 21-year-old Itauma, who is the WBO mandatory challenger and ranked number one with the WBA, had previously expressed his desire to face Hrgovic and was said to be disappointed when the Croatian was initially matched with Allen.
