A former social housing tenant has been ordered to pay more than $4,800 after leaving a suburban home severely damaged and filled with tonnes of uncollected rubbish.
The Tenancy Tribunal ordered Mateus Kathleen Donn Hunt to immediately pay $4,846.13 to Kāinga Ora-Homes and Communities following the conclusion of the tenancy.
A recently released tribunal ruling slammed the state of the Rosehill property in Papakura, detailing extensive damage to internal walls and doors alongside rooms left entirely full of abandoned belongings.
According to landlord records presented to the tribunal, clean-up crews had to remove eight cubic meters of internal rubbish and an additional 2.5 cubic meters from the outside of the property.
The tribunal awarded Kāinga Ora $1761.81 for rubbish removal and $783.92 to fund a necessary "whole house" clean once the items were cleared.
