Cynthia D. Balana

Veteran journalist and Daily Tribune columnist Cynthia D. Balana has been named one of the recipients of the Icons of Change International Awards for 2026 for her “exemplary and sustained leadership through distinguished investigative journalism, strategic public communications, institutional transparency, and ethical media practice in the Philippines.”

Balana is being awarded for advancing UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions in connection with this year’s observance of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development.

“Through her decades of fearless reporting, ethical governance communication, and mentorship of future journalists, Cynthia D. Balana has illuminated marginalized voices, strengthened institutional accountability, and advanced informed public discourse — playing a vital role in reinforcing democratic values and transparent governance,” the Icons of Change said.

The Icons of Change is the premier global recognition platform dedicated to Changemakers, recognizing inspiring leaders and innovators across various sectors worldwide.
