Police further disclosed that during intensive bush combing operations carried out across surrounding forest areas on Tuesday morning, operatives encountered two suspects identified as Shehu and Abubakar, who allegedly volunteered information during interrogation.
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria after armed men invaded the institute’s premises in Ibadan on Monday evening.
According to the police in a statement signed by Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the incident was reported at about 1800hrs on 19th May, 2026 by the Chief Security Officer of the institute to the Idi-Ayunre Divisional Police Headquarters.
The Command said the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga, subsequently ordered the deployment of tactical and intelligence operatives, including members of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, to rescue the victims and apprehend the abductors.
