The court also awarded N500,000 damages against the respondents for the unlawful arrest, assault and detention.
An Abuja court has declared the arrest and detention of Innocent Gabriel, brother of activist and TikToker Gabriel “Tumma” Timothy, over wearing a red beret linked to the RevolutionNow movement as illegal, unconstitutional and a violation of his fundamental human rights.
The court also awarded N500,000 damages against the respondents for the unlawful arrest, assault and detention.
The judgment followed a suit filed after officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) brutalised Innocent Gabriel, his brother, Gabriel Smart Victor, and their mother in Abuja in April 2025.
SaharaReporters had reported that the family members were attacked while on their way to the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
