South Africa faces a persistent carjacking crisis, with an average of 60 vehicles hijacked daily.
South Africa’s latest crime statistics for the past two quarters show little improvement in the country’s ongoing carjacking scourge, with an average of 60 vehicles hijacked every day.
The list of the most targeted vehicles remains largely unchanged, with the Toyota Hilux and Volkswagen Polo continuing to dominate statistics due to their popularity, resale value and strong demand for parts on the black market.
The Ford Ranger remains on the radar of criminal syndicates, with incidents increasing as the bakkie’s popularity continues to grow. New additions to the list include the Kia Picanto, Isuzu D-Max and Toyota Corolla Cross.
The figures also show that certain high-risk areas remain trouble spots for motorists across the country.
