In a major reshuffle, several lower level police officers of Karur have been transferred from the district and posted in north and south zones.According to sources, three Deputy Superintendents of Police, 10 Inspectors of Police, one Sub-Inspector and one Special Sub Inspector and four Head Constables have figured in the list of inter-zone transfers. V. Selvaraj, DSP, Karur town, G. Manivannan, Inspector of Police, Special Branch, and G. Nagaraj, Sub-Inspector of Police, Special Branch, were among those transferred out of the district. Similarly, the other two DSPs of the district were also transferred.Of them, Mr. Manivannan was holding the post of Inspector of Police, Karur town, when the stampede occurred during the rally addressed by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president C. Joseph Vijay at Velusamypuram on Karur-Erode Highway on September 27, 2025. The tragedy that shook the nation claimed 41 lives. Most of them were fans of Mr. Vijay and cadres of his party.Mr. Manivannan was the complainant-cum-Investigating Officer of the stampede case. The First Information Report registered by him cited Karur south district secretary of TVK V.P. Mathizhagan, general secretary Bussy N. Anand, joint secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar and others as accused in the case.Sources told The Hindu that the Director General of Police had issued the inter-zone transfer orders to that effect.
