Google Maps says that if you walk from the many pubs that surround the Emirates Stadium, then the journey should take you only a matter of minutes. But Arsenal fans aren’t walking. Tonight, they’re flying. As the full-time whistle blows at the Vitality Stadium, they pour out from the pubs onto Holloway Road.First, they dart into off-licences to clear the shelves. Some buy cans of beer, others buy bottles of champagne that they are shaking before they’ve even left the shop. And now, the race to the Emirates Stadium begins.Down Tollington Road, Drayton Park, Benwell Road, and many more streets that have so often been the settings for desolate post-game trudges in the other direction, fans hop, skip and leap towards the Hornsey Road roundabout. They’re heading for a party they’ve been waiting 22 years to have.Arsenal fans gather outside the Emirates Stadium to celebrate their Premier League win (The Athletic/Kaya Kaynak)It’s the culmination of a night that started hours before. Tuesday nights on Holloway Road are usually quiet, but this is no ordinary Tuesday night.Fans have arrived at The Horatia pub as early as 5pm with cautious optimism for what they hope could be a special night. “I think it’ll be 1-1,” says 31-year-old George. “2-2” says 26-year-old Charlie. “I can see a draw but I can’t see City losing.”Ria, 32, believes too. “I was in primary school (for the Invincibles),” she says. “It’ll be nice to experience winning the league as an adult. It would mean everything.”32-year-old Ria has arrived early (The Athletic/Kaya Kaynak)On another table, conversation briefly turns to the other game happening this evening between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. “If Spurs are relegated it will be a cherry on top,” says 30-year-old Ben from Philadelphia, who started supporting Arsenal because of their likeness to the Sega Soccer Slam character Arsenault. “No, tonight we need The Cherries to be on top,” jokes Kai, his 29-year-old friend from north London. As the game kicks off, it looks as though they’ll get their wish. Bournemouth start strongly, and an early disallowed Erling Haaland goal only heightens the atmosphere. Then comes the moment that will be replayed for generations. Eli Junior Kroupi curls in superbly from just inside the box to send the pub into delirium. One fan has brought a Kroupi Match Attax card with him and is waving it wildly in celebration.
