ALBAWABA - Lord of the Rings fans are in for a treat as Warhorse Studios, the developer behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is working on an open-world Middle-earth RPG based on J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium. The developer took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "You might have heard the rumours, it's time to reveal what we are working on. An open world Middle-earth RPG. A new Kingdom Come adventure. We’re excited to tell you more when the time is right." This comes after the successful release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, which received praise from both game critics and fans for its excellent narrative, open world, and satisfying yet complex combat. The game was also nominated for Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards for the "Game of the Year" title alongside other renowned games such as Death Stranding II, Donkey Kong Bananza, Hades 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. However, Come: Deliverance II lost the title to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The announcement drew widespread praise from LOTR fans who took to social media to voice their excitement. A social media user wrote on X, "this just made my day and gave me another reason to live." Another added, "I am so excited. We will meet with this one Orc in human city that lecture about Orc Lives Matter and how culturally rich Orc Culture is. Can't wait to see him." One more wrote, "BANGGGG!!! Really excited for this project. Considering how robust the systems KCD2 had, I’m curious to see what you have in mind for this one, and where you’ll take us this time.—I hope there’ll be blacksmithing."
