The government said the measures were designed to protect candidates and maintain a conducive atmosphere for the examinations despite the political activities taking place within some school premises.
Hundreds of students in selected public schools across Ondo State will remain out of classrooms on Wednesday as the state government converts some educational facilities into polling centres for the All Progressives Congress (APC) State House of Assembly primaries.
The Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology confirmed that affected primary and secondary schools across the state’s 18 local government areas would be temporarily shut to allow for the conduct of the party’s electoral exercise.
According to the ministry, the decision was taken as part of efforts to maintain security and ensure orderly movement within school premises expected to host party delegates, electoral officials, and security personnel during the primaries.
In a statement issued by the ministry, all learners, teachers, and non-academic staff in the affected schools were directed to stay away from school on the election day.
