TravelTravel NewsAir travelThe 100ml liquid allowance rule is being relaxed at some UK airports - but not all09:18, 20 May 2026With the summer holidays almost here and millions of Brits gearing up to fly abroad, it's vital to stay clued up on airport regulations. While some airports have started to introduce the new liquids rules, others are still sticking firmly to the existing 100ml restriction.‌Under the current guidelines, all liquids must be packed in a single clear plastic bag, with no more than 100ml per item permitted. However, advances in technology are enabling passengers to keep all their toiletries in their luggage. At certain airports, travellers can now carry up to two litres of liquid.‌Neil Atkinson, managing director of travel firm Luxury Group Stay, said the rollout could make a major difference for families and group travellers this summer.‌He said: "Airport security has always been one of the most stressful parts of travelling, especially for families juggling toiletries, baby milk, sun cream and electronics."The new CT scanners are creating a much smoother experience for passengers."Not having to unpack liquids or worry about tiny bottles speeds everything up and removes a lot of unnecessary hassle before people even get on holiday.‌"The biggest issue right now, though, is confusion. Travellers may assume the rules are the same everywhere, and they simply aren't."Someone flying out from Heathrow could have a completely different experience to somebody departing from Manchester or Stansted."‌That's why it's absolutely vital to check the regulations at your departure airport – and don't forget the return journey either. Many airports abroad are still operating under the old system, with tighter restrictions on liquids. He added: "The safest approach is still to check the exact guidance for every airport you're travelling through. It only takes one airport sticking with the old rules for items to be confiscated."Article continues belowAirports that have relaxed the 100ml rulesBelfast International AirportBelfast City AirportBirmingham AirportBournemouth AirportBristol AirportEdinburgh AirportLondon Gatwick AirportLondon Heathrow AirportLondon Southend AirportUsual liquid limits applyAberdeen AirportCardiff AirportEast Midlands AirportGlasgow AirportGlasgow Prestwick AirportInverness AirportIsle of Man AirportLeeds Bradford AirportLiverpool John Lennon AirportLondon City AirportLondon Luton AirportLondon Stansted AirportManchester AirportNewcastle International AirportNewquay AirportNorwich AirportSouthampton AirportTeesside International AirportChoose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.‌Edinburgh AirportGatwick AirportGlasgow Airport Ltd.London Luton Airport Ltd.Leeds Bradford Airport Ltd.London City AirportAberdeen Airport Ltd.Manchester AirportHeathrow AirportTravelAir travel
