The actor, 72, drew attention for his distinctive appearance, wearing round glasses and an array of different coloured berets, explaining it was an homage to old-school directors from the 1920s to 1960s. Travolta noted that his unique look would also help him distinguish this event from others when looking back at photographs, making the Cannes experience more vivid. During the festival, the artistic director, Thierry Frémaux, surprised Travolta with an honorary Palme d’Or, an award the actor described as being 'beyond the Oscar'. Propeller One-Way Night Coach, which Travolta wrote, directed, and co-produced based on his 1997 children's novel, follows a young aspiring pilot and his mother, and will stream globally on Apple TV later this month; Travolta, a licensed pilot, flew his own plane to the premiere.
