This is exactly what happened to one mum when she glanced to see how her little one was doing recently.Journey Elaine recently opened up about the parenting mishap on TikTok when she shared footage of what happened when she checked in on her little one not so long ago. While she expected to see her baby fast asleep in a cot, she actually saw something that horrified her and she'd perhaps never seen anything like it before. It's not the only story of this kind to be shared either. Months ago, another mum admitted her blood ran cold after looking at the baby monitor too.Over footage of the incident, she admitted it was "every parent's worst nightmare". You then get to see exactly what she's referring to when you play the video. Her little one is seen lying in the cot, but a rather eerie scene is depicted. The main thing you see is eyes glowing in the dark, which she seemed to find quite unsettling.Alongside the clip, she said "eyes on baby monitors are so creepy", and it's something that got people talking. Some made their thoughts clear by simply replying with crying faces.Content cannot be displayed without consentOne person replied: "Not only that, but if their bed is at the end of yours, you panic when you hear shuffling." To this, Journey said: "Hearing them move in their sleep gave me so much sleep anxiety. I had to move rooms when he was old enough."This isn't the first time someone has drawn attention to such an incident happening either. Previously, a mum known as Precious R on TikTok also said it once happened to her.At the time, a lot of people admitted they thought it was creepy too. One said: "Omg, I thought this was a 'ghost caught on camera' moment."Someone else noted: "My daughter sleeps with her eyes open, I see this every night. It freaks me out." Another also wrote: "This is why I don’t want a baby monitor in my house."Why does it happen?Little you may know, eyes can "glow" on baby monitors due to the camera's infrared night vision. In the dark, the monitor bathes the room in infrared light, which is invisible to the human eye, but easily picked up by the camera.Article continues belowWhen your baby looks directly at the lens, their pupils are dilated to let in more light, causing the infrared light to bounce off the highly reflective retina straight back into the camera. It's reported the effect is similar to the "red-eye" you see in traditional flash photography. However, due to the fact that infrared cameras record in black and white, the eyes appear as a stark white or eerie glow. So, if you've ever noticed it when you look at a baby monitor, now you know why it happens. We all learn something new every day.
