He had served as interim ambassador after Lord Peter Mandelson was removed and was deputy head of mission at the British Embassy since 2022. Mr Roscoe was reportedly considered for the top diplomatic role in Washington, which ultimately went to Sir Christian Turner. His past responsibilities included playing a key role in a state visit to the UK last September and being involved in the King's recent US state visit. His distinguished career also includes roles as UK ambassador to the United Nations, communications chief to Queen Elizabeth II, and chief press officer for former prime ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.
