The scene at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi this week landed badly for many Africans, and for good reason.
French President Emmanuel Macron lost patience with a noisy audience during a session featuring artists and young entrepreneurs.
People talked through presentations, drifted in and out of the hall, checked phones, and ignored speakers. Macron walked onto the stage, took the microphone, and demanded silence. He called the behaviour a “total lack of respect”.
