EDITOR'S TAKE: Developer Re-Logic recently celebrated the 15th anniversary of Terraria, the 2011 action-adventure game that's somehow still going strong all these years later. At first glance, Terraria seems like a simple 16-bit sandbox without much depth. After all, there's no real goal – you just sort of mindlessly explore the environment, fight enemies, craft items, and battle the occasional boss. Spend any amount of time with the game, however, and you'll quickly realize there's far more to it than initially meets the eye.

Terraria can be played alone or online with others. It originated on the PC but was eventually ported to consoles and mobile devices. Gameplay is accentuated by a stellar soundtrack and above all else, it's a blast to play. Those needing proof of that need look no further than the numbers.

Re-Logic said 70 million copies of Terraria have been sold to date, including 39.6 million on PC, 10.7 million for consoles, and 19.7 million copies across mobile devices. Over the past year alone on the PC, the game has averaged 461,000 players with a peak of 1.4 million. On average, PC gamers have played 101 hours and 18 minutes.

At 70 million copies sold, Terraria ranks as the 7th best-selling video game of all time. To put that into perspective, that's 12 million more copies sold than the original Super Mario Bros. Only Tetris, Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto V, Wii Sports, Red Dead Redemption 2, Mario Kart 8, and PUBG: Battlegrounds have sold more copies.
