Skip to contentMicrosoft may be preparing to launch a new Xbox controller with an updated design and support for WiFi as well as Bluetooth. Why? So that in addition to working as a wireless controller for an Xbox or PC, it can communicate directly with Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming services for lower latency connections. In other words, it’s kind of like Google’s Stadia controller… except it’s designed for a cloud gaming service that still exists. While Microsoft hasn’t officially introduced the new WiFi-enabled controller yet, earlier this year The Verge reported that it was in the works. And now tecnoblog has posted some pictures and other details obtained from a Brazilian wireless regulatory website.via tecnoblogThe controller is said to have a Realtek RTL8730E wireless chip with support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3, a 500 mAh battery, and a USB Type-C port for charging. While it has all the usual controller features including dual analog sticks, a D-Pad, four action buttons, and shoulder buttons, the overall design looks a little different from a typical Xbox controller with smaller grips. There’s no word on how much the controller will cost or when it will be available yet. But given the rising costs of PC and console hardware due to RAM & storage price increases, it’s not hard to imagine a controller that you could pair with an entry-level or mid-range PC or mobile device for game streaming picking up some traction as an alternative to buying a high-performance gaming PC or console.via The Verge
