Google has proposed changes to its search results in negotiations with European Union regulators in an effort to avoid adding to its current total of €9.5 billion (£8.2bn) in fines, Bloomberg reported.
The company recently filed proposals to address concerns it was pushing down results for publishers’ websites when they include advertisements from their commercial partners, the report said, citing unnamed people.
If the proposals, which include amendments to its anti-spam policies, are approved by competitors and the European Commission, Google could avoid a formal order to change its business practices and potential fines under the Digital Markets Act, the report said.
