Infrastructure, the software development firm behind the widely used Canvas educational platform, said it had received “digital confirmation” that hackers had destroyed data relating to students and institutions that had been stolen in a ransomware attack.
The company did not directly confirm that it had paid the hacking group ShinyHunters, which claimed responsibility for the incident, but said it had “reached an agreement” with the extortion gang.
The gang supplied “shred logs” indicating that 3.5 terabytes of data stolen during the attack had been destroyed, and promised not to extort Infrastructure’s customers, the company said.
