Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to discuss economic cooperation, energy security and geopolitical issues during talks in Beijing, amid continuing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Moscow and Beijing maintain close strategic ties and are involved in joint projects, including Arctic exploration and nuclear energy development.
A major focus of the discussions is expected to be the proposed Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline, which would connect Russian gas fields in Siberia to China through Mongolia.
Russia has long pushed for the project as an expansion of existing gas export routes to China, while Beijing is seeking additional energy supplies. Russian officials view potential Chinese approval of the pipeline as a significant strategic and economic win for Moscow.
