I have been bemused to note that a major print media outlet sought and published the views of my predecessor at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Allan Fels and my successor, Rod Sims, on the judgment of the Federal Court in the Coles price rise and discount activities, but chose not to seek my views.I enquired why and was told, in a remarkably honest admission, that what the newspaper wanted was a scathingly critical headline about Coles, which these individuals could be guaranteed to supply, while I would be expected to provide a more measured commentary. They provide “good copy” I was told.
