New Delhi: Iran on Monday announced the launch of a new “regulatory body” for the Strait of Hormuz and unveiled its official X account, formally rolling out Tehran’s new maritime control mechanism for one of the world’s busiest shipping routes.

The new body, called the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), was introduced by Iranian officials as a framework to oversee maritime transit and shipping coordination in the Strait of Hormuz. Shortly after the announcement, the authority launched its official X account: @PGSA_IRAN.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council also reposted a post on X announcing that the official account of the “Persian Gulf Strait Authority” was now operational. “In the Name of God. The official X account of the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (#PGSA) is now live. Follow us for real-time updates on the Hormuz Strait operations and latest developments,” the Persian Gulf Strait Authority said in its post.At the time of publication, the account had around 22,000 followers and followed 12 handles linked to Iran’s political and military establishment, including those associated with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Brig Gen Ali Jahan Shahi and former parliament speaker Ali Larijani.Iranian media outlets, including Tasnim News Agency and Fars News Agency, reported that the new authority would manage designated shipping routes and coordinate maritime services linked to vessel movement through the Strait, which Tehran has effectively closed since the start of war with US-Israel.
