Bloomberg Media on Tuesday said it would bring its flagship "New Economy Forum" event to India for the first time this October, as part of a broader push into the region. Why it matters: It wants to get ahead of the critical tech and business growth story in the region while also exploring more business and expansion opportunities. India is currently the second largest market globally for Bloomberg.com. Zoom in: The invitation-only forum is slated for Oct. 13-15 in New Delhi. It will convene over 500 people in power across business, technology and politics, including current and former heads of state, central bank governors, CEOs, sovereign investors and more.India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak at the forum. In a statement, he said event participants "will get an opportunity to experience the energy of a nation that is not just participating in the new economy, but actively defining it."The event's official theme — "A World in Play: Defining the New Levers of Power" — will support programming that highlights geopolitics, economic prosperity, technology and innovation. Some of the forum's partners include Hitachi Energy, HSBC, Hyundai Motor Company, Tata Sons, Marsh, PwC, Schneider Electric and AstraZeneca.Between the lines: In conjunction with the event this fall, Bloomberg will debut a weekly New Economy video podcast from its new Mumbai studio. Its flagship program,"Wall Street Week with David Westin" will focus special segments on India leading up to the forum. Bloomberg's October/November issue of Markets Magazine will be focused on India.In the lead up to the event, Bloomberg inked a video distribution deal with JioTV — one of the largest live streaming services in the region — last year.The big picture: Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Media have more than 250 people based in India.Bloomberg Media has had journalists in the region for 30 years, but has expanded its staff there by 30% in the past three years.Zoom out: This year marks the eighth annual New Economy Forum for Bloomberg Media. The event was initially launched by founder Michael Bloomberg in 2018 to focus on creating an East-West dialogue between top business and political leaders. Today, it's a multi-platform franchise. This year, the company launched a new video hub focused solely on the New Economy Forum and surrounding events. It launched a "New Economy" newsletter on May 9. What to watch: Bloomberg Media will participate and has hosted various events in India leading up to the forum, including India's AI Impact Summit in February.
