There’s a reason the hashtag #Mayhem has been making the rounds in the softball world.From first-round upsets to a historic comeback by Texas Tech, this weekend brought plenty of surprises and moments of total domination. There are so many things about the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament that highlight the beauty of the game and how hard it is to play.Here’s what stood out most to me and what it means moving forward to Super Regionals.Texas Tech has the clutch geneTrailing Ole Miss 8-0 at the bottom of the 7th inning and facing its final out, Texas Tech mounted one of the best rallies in softball this season, highlighted by a grand slam by Lauren Allred. The scene in Lubbock was electrifying. Since 2000, teams were 0-640 when trailing by eight-plus runs in the NCAA Tournament. Now, make that 1-640.Kaitlyn Terry singled up the right side to bring in Lauren Allred for the first run. Next at-bat, Jackie Lis homered to make it 8-3. After another run, Allred was back at the plate with the bases loaded. Her grand slam sailed over the left field wall to tie the game, and she was mobbed by her teammates at home plate.
