The Samaria Gorge in Crete will open for the 2026 season on Tuesday, the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization announced.
It noted that all annual maintenance on paths, infrastructure, communications and safety systems has been completed.
For a second year, the agency will use a nowcasting application to warn of intense or extreme weather within two hours at critical points. Medical and nursing staff will be present from the first day.
Visitors must comply with the national park’s regulations, respect and protect the environment, and accept full personal responsibility for their safety, “acknowledging the risks, especially in cases of extraordinary and unpredictable incidents.”
