A police wireless message dated May 18, 2026, and marked “M/Immediate,” revealed that the slain officers were on special duty when they lost their lives in what authorities described as a “tragic loss” during the assault on the facility.
The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans for a solemn interdenominational service in honour of 17 policemen killed during an attack on the Special Forces Training Camp in Buni Yadi, Yobe State.

The signal was signed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Research and Planning on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.
According to the signal issued from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police Secretariat, the prayer service is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Helipad of the Force Headquarters in Abuja by 10am.
