India increased petrol and diesel prices by about 0.9 rupees ($0.0093) a litre, the second rise in a week.

Petrol now costs 98.64 rupees ($0.0093) a litre and diesel 91.58 rupees ($0.0093), with rates varying by region.

The move follows a three-rupee-per-litre increase last Friday, ending a four-year freeze on retail fuel price rises.

Analysts link the timing to key state elections won by Narendra Modi’s party, while global oil briefly topped $120 a barrel.
