WARSAW – Karol Nawrocki, the Polish President, has staked a claim to be Europe’s leading MAGA-aligned political figure combining close ties to Donald Trump with a radical conservative domestic agenda.
With a programme, centred on constitutional reform, nationalism and opposition to EU climate policy, Nawrocki, 43, has sought in recent weeks to strengthen his position within the broader Polish right ahead of next year’s parliamentary elections.
On 3 May, during celebrations marking Poland’s Constitution Day, Nawrocki, an independent backed by the formerly ruling national conservative Law and Justice (PiS), announced the creation of a special council tasked with drafting a new constitution.
