Veteran actor Raaj Kumar remains one of the most memorable stars of Hindi cinema. Known for his powerful dialogue delivery, unique personality and larger-than-life screen presence, the actor featured in more than 70 films during his career. From intense action dramas to classics like Pakeezah, Raaj Kumar built a reputation for playing diverse roles that left a lasting impact on audiences.Recently, filmmaker KC Bokadia has opened up about his experience of working with the legendary actor and shared some lesser-known stories about his personality. During a recent conversation with IndiaTV, Bokadia revealed that managing Raaj Kumar on set was even more challenging than working with superstar Amitabh Bachchan. The filmmaker recalled that Raaj Kumar had a rather unusual habit. According to him, the actor called almost everyone “Jaani,” a word that became closely associated with him over the years. He told India TV, "His dog’s name was Jaani. So, he used to call everyone ‘Jaani.’ Fortunately, he never called me by that name and addressed me only as ‘Bokadia saab,'"You Might Also Like:Bokadia went on to explain the difference between Raaj Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan when it came to working styles. He described Amitabh Bachchan as someone who was very calculative and practical, making it easier to communicate with him professionally. Raaj Kumar, on the other hand, was more unpredictable and emotional. How Raaj Kumar was tougher to handle that Amitabh Bachchan? The filmmaker said that Raaj Kumar’s reactions often depended entirely on his mood at that moment. He compared the actor’s temperament to something that could not always be controlled or anticipated. According to Bokadia, convincing him for a film was never easy because the actor preferred meeting people personally before agreeing to a project.Sharing an interesting incident, Bokadia recalled, "I called him over the phone one evening. We had planned the muhurat shot for the next day. If he doesn’t know the person’s face, he won’t do the film. The story comes second for him. As soon as he picked up the phone, I told him, ‘Raaj saab, let me share a line with you.’ He agreed. Handling him was tougher than handling Bachchan saab. Yes, Bachchan is a calculative person, but Raaj saab was moody."The conversation then shifted to remuneration. Bokadia shared that Raaj Kumar first asked how much he had been paid for their previous film together. When the filmmaker reminded him that he had earlier received Rs 21 lakh, the actor demanded a higher amount. Bokadia then increased the offer step by step and finally settled at Rs 25 lakh, which even surprised Raaj Kumar. You Might Also Like:The filmmaker also revealed another funny moment from their discussion. Since the muhurat shoot was scheduled for the next day, the actor wondered how costumes could be arranged in such a short time. Bokadia jokingly replied that Raaj Kumar had maintained the same iconic style for nearly three decades, so there was no need for new clothes.Interestingly, the actor finally arrived for the shoot wearing the same yellow coat that audiences had earlier seen in the song “Neele Gagan Ke Tale” from Hamraaz. For the unversed, Raaj Kumar passed away on July 3, 1996, at the age of 69 after battling throat cancer. In an earlier interview with Farhana Farook, his son Puru Raaj Kumar shared that the actor had also been suffering from Hodgkin’s disease and had undergone chemotherapy treatment.
