Amid growing anxiety over the abduction of pupils and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has said his administration is willing to engage the kidnappers in dialogue if it would lead to the swift and safe release of the victims.
The governor said although the state would not submit to intimidation or terrorism, the protection of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers remained the government’s immediate priority, stressing that authorities were prepared to consider demands that could facilitate their rescue.
Makinde spoke on Monday, while addressing journalists in Ibadan on the security situation following last Friday’s attack on two schools in the state.
He confirmed that seven students were abducted from the Community Secondary School, while 18 children and seven teachers were kidnapped from the First Baptist Primary and Nursery School during the attack, which also claimed one life.
