Looks quite positive. I hope. Nevertheless, I hope we can have this sitting for June and we can have this constitutional amendment to get the 148,” she told reporters at Parliament here after a bipartisan parliamentary special select committee’s (PSSC) meeting on the Bill. She was responding to a question on whether MPs in the PSSC have given their commitment on behalf of their political parties to support the Bill. While Azalina declined to take any questions on political matters, she hoped that politicians would only make decisions after parliamentary proceedings on the revised Bill.“And I hope any decision to be made by party leaderships can be made after the Parliament sitting.“I hope it will happen after the constitutional amendment for AG-PP. Not before,” she said, adding: “So I hope the bosses will decide and negotiate.”Yesterday, Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad announced that they would vacate their parliamentary seats on May 18 (today), and that they would quit their party PKR on May 19 (tomorrow) to join their new party, Parti Bersama Malaysia. But everybody is agreed. That is the best compromise that we have got between the executive and the legislative.”Explaining what is expected to take place on June 22, Azalina said a statement regarding the PSSC meetings on the Bill will be presented in Parliament, together with the revised Bill to amend the Federal Constitution for the proposed AG-PP split.“We hope we can do the first reading, then the second reading, and I hope third reading we can settle it together,” she said, confirming that this revised Bill version “is agreed to by all parties”.“I requested representatives from the opposition to give support to the government for this Bill, taking into account this is the Bill that will, this amendment will benefit the rakyat (public) as a whole,” she said, describing the proposed AG-PP split as an institutional reform.Azalina said she had asked the MPs in the PSSC to urge their fellow MPs from their respective political parties to support the Bill. The 12-member PSSC is chaired by Azalina and composed of members from various political parties, namely Selayang MP William Leong Jee Keen, Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan, Alor Gajah MP Adly Zahari, Parit Sulong MP Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad, Lubok Antu MP Roy Angau Gingkoi, Tawau MP Datuk Lo Su Fui, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Kota Bharu MP Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Beluran MP Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee, and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. The Bill for the AG-PP split was tabled in the Dewan Rakyat for first reading on February 23, and was tabled for second reading on March 3 but was not debated on, as it was referred to the PSSC for review. The Bill, known as the Constitution (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2026, had proposed to split the AG’s current dual roles as the government’s chief legal adviser and PP into two separate positions to be held by two different persons.
