Guwahati: Movement of trucks and other vehicles remained stranded on NH-2 in Manipur as both Kukis and Nagas imposed a bandh and economic blockade, protesting over the issue of missing persons following the May 13 ambush in Manipur.The truckers are in dire straits as they are facing shortage of food and drinking water. Truckers said, "We are just transporting goods. The groups must resolve these issues among themselves. We want the government to open the road so that we can move."Assam Rifles personnel and drivers' unions are providing relief materials.As per Manipur's home department, reports initially indicated that over 38 persons went missing following the May 13 violence. Authorities later said 32 individuals had since returned.United Naga Council (UNC), the apex body of Nagas, claimed six people are still in captivity and announced the economic blockade. Kuki Inpi Manipur claimed 14 persons are missing from their community. Both communities have accused each other of holding their members captive. UNC announced an indefinite inter-district economic blockade along the national highways passing through Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur.Kuki Inpi Manipur extended its ongoing shutdown by another 48 hours, alleging the failure to rescue the missing individuals allegedly taken hostage in Senapati district. KIM stated the shutdown came into effect from May 17 midnight and appealed to all federating units and civil society groups to continue backing the agitation.
