New Delhi: Power minister Manohar Lal and Minister of State in the Department of Atomic Energy Jitendra Singh on Monday held discussions with a delegation of US nuclear industry executives on strengthening cooperation in the nuclear energy sector, including reducing financing costs, improving construction timelines, and supporting long-term energy security goals.India reiterated its commitment to affordable, reliable and safe nuclear power with the highest standards of safety, security and regulatory oversight as the country progresses towards its vision of 100 GW nuclear capacity by 2047, the power ministry said on X.According to a person familiar with the discussions, the meeting was attended by nuclear industry executives, including Daniel Seth Lipman, president of Westinghouse Electric Company; Seth Grae, president & CEO of Lightbridge Corporation; and Mehul Shah, founder and CEO of Clean Core Thorium Energy.The US-India Strategic Partnership Forum and Nuclear Energy Institute co-hosted the US nuclear industry delegation to India, led by Maria Korsnick, president and CEO of NEI, for four days starting Monday in New Delhi and Mumbai.According to a post on LinkedIn by USISPF, the delegation represents the full nuclear value chain, including advanced reactor technologies, fuel cycle innovation, engineering and nuclear infrastructure development.During the visit, the delegation aims to identify new opportunities for collaboration between US nuclear companies and Indian industry as India looks to expand its nuclear power capacity.Further discussions during the visit are expected to focus on partnerships in project development, supply chains and manufacturing, while also exploring how state governments can support nuclear projects and promote local manufacturing ecosystems, according to USISPF.
