The Osun State government and the leadership of the Accord Party have raised the alarm over what they described as credible intelligence suggesting the creation and planned deployment of a special police squad to the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

They warned that the alleged development, if not urgently addressed, could heighten political tension in Osun State and undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

The statement was signed by Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Osun State Government.

According to the allegations contained in a statement issued on Monday, May 18, 2026, the squad is reportedly led by an unnamed Chief Superintendent of Police and is expected to arrive in the state “any moment from now,” with plans to commence operations allegedly targeting prominent Accord Party members and some government officials.
