Over 150 Scheduled Caste women, residents of Pulipatti and nearby areas in Melur taluk submitted a petition to the Madurai Collector on Monday stating that the real beneficiaries were not receiving the Magalir Urimai Thogai, monthly financial assistance for women heads of family. They said they had repeatedly petitioned the officials stating that the beneficiaries were not receiving the financial assistance. The only response they got was that the amount would be disbursed soon or they were asked to take part in the camps to be held in this regard. However, such camps were not being held, they said. The women said at least 200 beneficiaries from Pulipatti, kallampatti, Sennagarampatti and Gandhi Nagar were yet to receive the amount. In just these four villages there were around 200 beneficiaries. If a survey was conducted for the entire Madurai district it could be more than 2,000 beneficiaries, they said. They said they had even petitioned the District Collector repeatedly. However no action has been taken so far and the amount was not reaching the real beneficiaries. They said they were being made to run from pillar to post and were being ignored because they belonged to the Scheduled Caste. The women urged the authorities to ensure that the amount reached the real beneficiaries. Published - May 18, 2026 11:29 pm IST
