Northeastern University has selected current Purdue University President Mung Chiang to be its next president. Chiang will become Northwestern’s 18th president on July 1, succeeding interim president Henry Bienen.

Chiang has served as Purdue’s president since January 2023. He previously was dean of Purdue’s College of Engineering, and in 2021, he was appointed its executive vice president for strategic initiatives.

Mung Chiang received his B.S. (1999), M.S. (2000) and Ph.D (2003) from Stanford University. Before coming to Purdue, he was a faculty member at Princeton University, where he was named the Arthur LeGrand Doty Professor of Electrical Engineering. At Princeton, he founded the Princeton EDGE Lab as well as several several startup companies. He holds 26 U.S. patents.
