Falana condemned the continued detention of the forest security operatives, describing it as a violation of their constitutional rights and a contradiction of the Federal Government’s own security initiatives aimed at tackling insecurity across the country.
Renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has demanded the immediate release of the Commander-General of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), Dr. Joshua Osatimehin, and six of his colleagues, who were arrested on the orders of the Office of the National Security Adviser and detained without trial since April 21, 2026.
Falana condemned the continued detention of the forest security operatives, describing it as a violation of their constitutional rights and a contradiction of the Federal Government’s own security initiatives aimed at tackling insecurity across the country.
In a statement issued on Monday, Falana said the arrest and detention of Dr. Osatimehin and the six other NFSS officials contravened Section 35 of the Nigerian Constitution and Article 6 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act, both of which guarantee the fundamental right to personal liberty.
“On April 21, 2026, the Commander-General of Nigeria’s Forest Security Service (NFSS), Dr. Joshua Osatimehin along with six of his colleagues were arrested on the orders of the National Security Adviser,” Falana said.
