Greece will withdraw air defense systems deployed at the start of this year’s US and Israeli attacks on Iran to the eastern border with Turkey, whose presence caused consternation in Ankara, reports said Monday.

State ERT television said the decision was taken during a session of the Government Council on National Security, or KYSEA, under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

ERT said KYSEA approved withdrawal of the US-made Patriot missile systems from Didymoteicho, on the northeastern land border, and the southeastern Aegean Sea island of Karpathos.

The move was dictated by “the change in geopolitical conditions,” ERT said.
