According to a detailed case summary seen by SaharaReporters, the victim, Goksel Toprak, a resident of Frankfurt, Germany, was deceived by a person who introduced himself online as “Mary Slim.”
A Nigerian man identified as Olanrewaju Egbedeyi has been accused of defrauding a German national, Goksel Toprak, of more than €100,000 in an alleged cross-border romance scam that spanned 2020 to 2025, according to documents obtained by SaharaReporters.
The case, currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), allegedly involved emotional manipulation, cryptocurrency transfers, fake emergencies and multiple Nigerian phone numbers used to sustain a long-term online relationship under a false identity.
Speaking to a source close to the German victim on Monday, SaharaReporters learnt that the suspect was arrested by Nigerian police after investigators traced some of the financial transactions and digital evidence linked to the alleged fraud.
The source said there were initial considerations for a plea bargain after the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime.
