Pennsylvania is holding its primary elections on May 19, giving voters the opportunity to cast their ballots for key congressional and statewide races.All of the state’s 17 House seats are up for grabs this election cycle, while the governor and lieutenant governor are running for reelection.Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) and Treasurer Stacy Garrity (R-PA) are running unopposed in their respective primaries, guaranteeing their general election faceoff come November. Shapiro’s second-in-command is also running unopposed in the Democratic primary, but he will face one of two Republican challengers in the general election.

Democrats seeking to replace their own
Four Democratic candidates are vying to replace Rep. Dwight Evans (D-PA), who is leaving office at the end of his fifth term. He represents Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District, a deep blue district encompassing a portion of Philadelphia.
Evans endorsed Dr. Ala Stanford, a pediatric surgeon and political newcomer, to fill his open seat. Stanford prides herself on running against President Donald Trump and his “disastrous policies,” but she faces steep competition from other contenders with similar campaign messaging.
