ESSEX, England (CMC):Jamaican international Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw ended the Women’s Super League (WSL) season in impressive fashion by scoring twice as Manchester City demolished West Ham United 4-1 here on Saturday to officially clinch their first title in a decade.Shaw netted in the 57th and 72nd minutes to end with 21 goals from 22 matches, by far the most of any player, with Arsenal’s Alessia Russo the closest challenger with 13 goals from the same number of games.Manchester City entered the match having already claimed the title they last won in 2016 and Andree Jeglertz’s side was given a guard of honour by the Hammers players before kick-off and collected the silverware shortly after the end of a comfortable success.Jade Rose put them ahead in the 13th minute with her first WSL goal, blasting home from inside the six-yard box after the hosts failed to clear a corner from the left, before Shaw doubled City’s lead after finishing well from Aoba Fujino’s excellent low cross from the right. With that strike, Shaw became the first player in WSL history to score 20 goals in three different seasons.West Ham pulled a goal back five minutes later when Seraina Piubel converted from Ffion Morgan’s low cross, but Shaw got her second goal of the afternoon in the 72nd minute, shooting into the bottom corner.Former England international Laura Coombs, who will retire at the end of the season following a 19-year career, made it 4-1 with 10 minutes to go, with her shot taking a deflection and looping into the net.
