After a video went viral showing him riding a motorcycle without a helmet, BJP MLA from Deoria, Shalabh Mani Tripathi, has appealed to the police to levy a fine against him.The MLA said that on Sunday (May 17, 2026) evening, while having tea at his residence, a party worker urged him to "inaugurate" his new motorcycle by taking it for a ride."I could not turn down his request and rode the bike without a helmet - an act that is, strictly speaking, a violation of the rules," Mr. Tripathi said.The MLA later wrote a letter to the police administration, requesting that appropriate action be taken and a fine be issued against him.He also appealed to the public to adhere to traffic regulations and always wear helmets.
