TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US President Donald Trump has again warned Iran to immediately agree to Washington’s proposed deal to end the ongoing conflict, saying Tehran faces destruction if negotiations continue to stall.“For Iran, the clock is ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform as quoted by DW on Saturday, May 16, 2026.Trump’s latest remarks came amid continued deadlock in efforts to secure a permanent agreement following a ceasefire reached in early April. Although the ceasefire was recently extended by the United States, negotiations between Washington and Tehran have made little progress in recent weeks.Last week, Trump said the ceasefire was on “massive life support,” signaling growing frustration within the US administration over the lack of a breakthrough. The US president has repeatedly used aggressive rhetoric toward Iran during the negotiations. Earlier, Trump warned that Iran’s “whole civilization” could collapse if Tehran refused to comply with Washington’s demands. He also threatened to deliberately target civilian infrastructure as part of efforts to pressure the Iranian government. The tensions unfolded as developments across the Middle East continued to raise international concern. A drone strike reportedly caused a fire near the perimeter of the Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi, while Iran’s state television reported that several European countries were discussing safe maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz with Tehran.Meanwhile, thousands of people gathered in London to commemorate Nakba Day, which marks the mass displacement of Palestinians during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.Read: Middle East Updates: Big Crowds at Nakba Day Rally in LondonClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
