Residents of Thiruindalur panchayat near Mayiladuthurai have expressed concern over deteriorating sanitation after hundreds of fish were found dead in a public pond on Kamarajar Street over the past few days.The dead fish floating in the pond had led to a strong foul smell in the locality, causing hardship to residents living nearby. Local people said senior citizens, women, and children were particularly affected as the stench had made it difficult for them to remain outdoors or keep the windows open.Residents feared the stagnant water and decaying fish could lead to the spread of diseases if the issue was not addressed immediately.Social activist A. Apparsundaram submitted a representation to the district administration urging immediate intervention. He called upon the authorities to direct the panchayat administration to remove the dead fish from the pond and undertake sanitation and maintenance work to restore hygiene in the area.He urged the officials to identify the reason behind the fish deaths and take preventive measures to avoid recurrence.A senior official from the Mayiladuthurai district administration said the matter would be looked into and appropriate action taken.
